Lightning Box Launches First Keno Game

Lightning Box, now one of Light & Wonder’s in-house companies, has released a bonus-enhanced keno table game as its first table game.

The game will be exclusive to Rank Group online casinos for two weeks before being made available to all customers on Light & Wonder’s industry-standard OPENGAMINGTM platform.

Players will be provided with a grid of 80 potential number selections and can select between three and 10 numbers to determine their own volatility index, house edge, and return to player (RTP). The random number generator then generates twenty numbers for the grid. To win, players must match at least two digits. For those who do not desire to select their own numbers, a quick pick feature is offered.

As the numbers are drawn, the company’s characteristic lightning bolt symbol can be affixed to certain of them. A lightning bonus respin is triggered whenever six or more of these special numbers occur.

Retriggering Respins in Lightning Box Bonus

Random reels spin for three re-spins. Also lighted by lightning. When an instant cash prize is won, the number of respin attempts is reset to three.

22 or 33 giant symbols can trigger one of four jackpots. When these symbols appear, the respin counter is reset to three. Jackpots range from tiny to large.

Lightning Box’s operations manager commented, “We’re pleased to integrate Keno’s unique gameplay with our lightning respin function.”

By mixing the bonus round from LIGHTNING GORILLATM and LIGHTNING BLAZETM with keno, we produced a game with universal appeal.

Engaging and Entertaining Title

Light & Wonder’s vice president of game development, Rob Procter, stated, “Keno, the studio’s first table game, demonstrates Lightning Box’s ability to create interesting and enjoyable titles. They’ve combined a classic table game with the popular lightning respin mechanism, and we’re confident that players will enjoy it.”

Lightning Box is a sophisticated slots lab and studio based in Australia that was founded in 2004. The team spent the majority of its time developing custom games for large providers such as Aristocrat and IGT. Scientific Games purchased Lighting Box in the summer of 2021, prior to spinning off its lottery interests and rebranding as Light & Wonder.

Players and industry analysts may have missed the takeover because Lightning Box had had a long-standing relationship with its new parent company for several years, most notably through a robust distribution partnership leveraging the previous SG Open Gaming platform.
