Schaan gets Plaza Casino Liechtenstein.
Plaza Casino The 400-square-meter casino will have six table games like American Roulette, Blackjack, and Texas Hold ‘Em and 90 slot machines.
BestWinAG and its managing director Tobias Axel, who handled the now-closed Maximus casino in Schaan, will manage it.
Total Liechtenstein casinos:
Since 2010, Liechtenstein has launched five casinos to draw gamblers from surrounding countries. After 96 in Balzers and Casino Maximus in Schaan closed, the number of casinos dropped from 6 to 4.
The Castle Casino in Vaduz opened last week, and the Plaza Casino Liechtenstein in Schaan will open soon, bringing the total to six.
The seventh casino, LC Casino in Eschen, will operate soon after receiving a license from the Office of Economic Affairs.
After this latest casino, the Liechtenstein gambling regulator will not accept new casino applications until December 31, 2025.
Casinos are one of Liechtenstein’s most successful facilities for gaming and non-gaming revenue, however many Liechtensteiners oppose them.
“Liechtenstein doesn’t need casinos and the money that they bring,” said former politician and IG VolksMeinung founder Hansjörg Frick. We won’t associate with them.”
Christian Frommelt, director of the independent Liechtenstein Institut, stated, “Casinos are likely to remain a difficult topic. Liechtenstein rarely has such a large and contentious debate.
“The casinos put the remote country’s strict Catholic traditions against its liberal economic ones, which have made Liechtenstein one of the world’s top financial centers. Casinos dispute these worlds.”
The initiative to outlaw casinos will be decided in a vote on January 29, 2023.
After five years, all Liechtenstein casinos must close if the initiative passes.
