2023 Tournament Poker Starts Strong

Everyone’s rested—time to swim again! Father Time left two weeks ago, ending the 2022 tournament poker season. The Baby New Year brings new tournaments and a few surprises on the major circuits in 2023.

2023 Borgata Million-Dollar Guaranteed Tournament

The Borgata in Atlantic City kicks off the 2023 tournament poker schedule as everyone recovers from their New Year’s Eve hangovers. The $2000 ($200 juice) Mystery Bounty tournament, “The Return,” guarantees a million bounties. Day 1A begins on Monday, January 2, while Day 1B begins at 7 PM. The Borgata would need 500 participants to cover the bounties and declare the champion on Tuesday.

However, that competition precedes the main event. On Wednesday, the Borgata hosts a $5000 Championship Event with specific rules. The tournament has a $3 million prize pool and a $1 million first-place award. We’ll see if the players respond to the Borgata’s daring move to reintroduce tournament activity.

The start of tournament poker season doubles the World Series of Poker Circuit. King’s Casino in Rozvadov hosts a twelve-tournament WSOP International Circuit schedule from January 4-24, 2023. The WSOP Circuit also runs a U.S. tournament at the Choctaw Casino Resort in Oklahoma.

The PokerGO Tour won’t let smaller circuits win. The 2023 PokerGO Cup begins on January 11 at PokerGO Studios in Las Vegas. On January 19, the $50,000 Championship Event of the made-for-streaming “High Roller” tournament will conclude the eight-event calendar.

In 2023, PokerStars is reviving an old pal. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure will host the second PokerStars Players’ Championship in January in the Bahamas. The 46-event festival at the Baha Mar Resort and Casino in Nassau will feature sun, sand, tropical beverages, and poker. Bounty and High Roller tournaments will accompany the $25,000 PSPC.

The World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour will commence later in 2023. The EPT will visit a new place first. The EPT Paris will begin on February 15 at the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile with a High Roller (€10,000), a Super High Roller (€50,000), a Mystery Bounty (€3000), and the traditional Main Event (€5,000). February 26 concludes the competition.

Currently, the WPT schedule is more unusual. WPT Prime Paris will take place on January 31 at Club Circus Paris. It will resumes in March at The Star Gold Coast in Australia and WPT Prime Cambodia.

WPT timetable questions may arise. Borgata? Commerce Casino location? Seminole Hard Rock where? The WPT schedule no longer includes tournaments at those venues.

Unsettling. The WPT’s 20-year-old L.A. Poker Classic (Commerce Casino) has been a staple. The $10,000 Championship Event and Frederic Remington “Bronco Buster” trophies are synonymous with poker greatness and WPT history. The Lucky Hearts Poker Open (Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL) regularly draws WPT’s largest fields. The WPT will move to the Hard Rock in 2023, although there is no ceremony or mention of the LAPC or Lucky Hearts leaving the schedule.

Is the WPT neglecting U.S. play for international play? Poker News Daily attempted to clarify with WPT officials. No response at press time. With the WPT gone, the LAPC and Lucky Hearts events will have less impact in January.

Players must start the 2023 tournament poker year well in the next 30 days. Starting tomorrow with the Borgata.
